During our last night in Porto, Portugal, Christopher rolled over in bed and told me, "I have to tell you about these two visions I just had."
Then he described what he thought was a toy or a Christmas ornament of a doll-like person wearing a large black fuzzy hat like an old Russian soldier and garb like a flared out skirt.
Next, he described what he thought was a wooden chicken with very distinct colors of yellow, red, white and blue.
He told me to make sure and pay attention to these descriptions because he was not sure of where we would see them or their significance...
When we got to the town of Nazaré, I wanted to buy a hoodie, so I wandered into a store to find a wall of these Portuguese dolls in black fuzzy hats and seven layered skirts made up of seven different layers of material. This really blew our minds. (pics on instagram @reinventingjude)
Then we made our way up to the actual Fort of Sao Miguel Arcanjo Lighthouse. There he recognized the second vision and pointed to the seagulls.
Within minutes of returning home to Southern California, this song came to me in the shower and was written before I was even done showering. A month later, as a Christmas present to ourselves, we booked several hours at a rehearsal studio. And so, this is how NAZARÉ, the song manifested.
lyrics
TIME, do tell, where we went and where we went well. NAZARÉ, you're my greatest WAVE. For you I fell. For you I'll save.
TIME, do yell, where we went and where we went so well. Oh NAZARÉ, you're my GREAT ESCAPE. For you I fell. For YOU I save.
Oh NAZARÉ. MY. For you I'm made. MINE. Oh NAZARÉ, I....for you I was made. For YOU, I'm IN...
VISIONS. Visions of YOU. The whole night. THE WHOLE night through. MORE than DOLLS to you. MORE THAN BIRDS THAT FLEW FLEW FLEW
OH NAZARÉ, you're mine. My GREAT ESCAPE. You're MINE. You're my GREATEST WAVE. YOU'RE mine. For YOU I'm MADE. For YOU I'm MADE.
TIME, TIME, DO TELL. Where we WENT and where WE went. WELL, oh NAZARÉ, for you I'm made. For you I'm MADE. For you, I'LL SAVE. For YOU, I'll save...
VISIONS, VISIONS, VISIONS OF YOU.
THE WHOLE NIGHT WHOLE NIGHT WHOLE NIGHT THROUGH
MORE THAN DOLLS TO YOU
MORE THAN BIRDS
BIRDS THAT FLEW
OH NAZARÉ. OH NAZARÉ. Oh, Nazaré....
